Communication

My Narrative Identity:

McAdams (2001) explains that people build their identity by telling stories about their lives. This is called narrative identity. When I think about my life, I can see how my experiences have shaped who I am today. My story includes both basketball and my interest in cybersecurity.

Basketball helped me become a leader and taught me how to work hard. It also taught me how to communicate with others, which is something I now use in the workforce. Being part of a team showed me how to speak to different types of people, give constructive criticism, and accept feedback from others. These communication skills are important not only in sports but also in professional environments. My school experiences helped me find my passion for technology. When I put these parts together, they form my identity. I am both an athlete and a student who is working toward a career in cybersecurity.

Nguyen (2015) talks about how people grow by learning from their experiences. This idea connects to my journey because I did not always know what I wanted to do. When I tried computer science, I discovered something I enjoy. This shows that trying new things is important for growth.

Smith (2016) explains that identity is also shaped by choices and challenges. Being a student-athlete is a challenge because it requires a lot of time and effort. I have had to make choices about how to spend my time and stay focused on my goals. These challenges have helped me grow stronger and more responsible.

Basketball Camp Counselor:

I worked as a camp counselor at the Good Counsel basketball camp, where I coached and supervised a group of 8th graders. In this role, I helped teach them basketball fundamentals, led drills, and made sure they stayed focused and engaged throughout the day. I had to communicate clearly so they could understand instructions, while also being patient and encouraging to help them improve. I also helped manage behavior and made sure everyone was respectful and working together as a team. This experience strengthened my leadership and communication skills because I had to guide younger players, give constructive feedback, and create a positive and supportive environment.
