As someone who has a full-time job and attends college full-time it is difficult to take on other responsibilities to gain experience outside those two domains. Therefore, it’s important that I do my best to take advantage of the experience, skills, and personal connections that are available to me in those areas, as well as find other ways to gain knowledge and experience that will work with my limited spare time.
In my time working a public library system I have found ways to gain leadership skills in such ways as offering developing and leading classes and programs to patrons as well as offering computer tutoring, resume, and job application help to anyone with the need for it. When I find spare time outside of my work and college assignments, I take advantage of Linkedin Learning that is available to me through Old Dominion University, a few of my learning certificates can be found on my Awards and Recognitions page. In my current Job in customer service I am focusing on communications skills, in working with my team I am able to refine my communication skills to complete tasks efficiently and make sure all team members are on the same page for who is responsible for individual tasks or working together well when it is required. I am also able to make personal connections with customers and give them a pleasant experience in our store.
These restraints also force me to be a creative problem solver and to be very good at managing my time, skills I’m not exactly trying achieve, but skills I’m gaining nonetheless and skills that are no less important than any others.
