Entry #2:

Over recent decades computers and networks that incorporate them have improved drastically to this point. In addition to new feats of technology, the overall use of technology has also grown substantially to this point. It seems as if literally everyone has a new smart phone or smart mobile device, young, middle aged, or elderly. While the future of technology is looking to be seemingly exciting, there are number of issues that have quickly arose with the limitless potential of our world’s tech, a number of ethical issues.

One major issue that involves majority of the world today whether they know it or not is dealing with the unlimited information being placed out into the world and how it can be contained and protected. Every little thing we do on our devices are stored somewhere in the memory of the device; this will of course mean that all smart phone owners individually have tons of information dispersed everywhere. This raises concern about privacy. A lot of times to access certain websites and to interact with social media we have reveal significant information about ourselves to indulge in whatever activities we are trying to participate in. Information released on social media is never deleted even after the deactivation of the account it was released from. So, the question arises how can we do what we want on the internet in private? And how do we truly know that our information is not being pulled elsewhere after submitting it. In addition to this, hacking has been a consistent threat in the cyber world and likely will not be disappearing any time soon. Needless to say, there is a lot of information that most people would rather not have stolen from them or even seen by others: social security numbers, tax information, health information, etc. Another ethical concern would be false information being released. Information can be spread similarly to an untamable wildfire, so when the information happens to be incorrect or harmful it can cause tremendous devastation to those involved. One last concern would have to be the unauthorized use of an individual’s information. The saying is that “Money runs the world” which means when information of any kind is being stored by a organization, they can be bought out at any time which sometimes forces people’s information to be distributed to a whole other party of individuals whom the original customers have no reason to trust.

While it may be largely because of the United States’ presence amongst the world as one of the most dominant world powers; none the less, America has the largest crime rate in the world which is ultimately frightening to think about. The overall population of the U.S. continues to increase exponentially due to childbirth and immigration which will likely further drive cybercrime rates through the roof now and in the future. The U.S. is even seemingly being targeted in the cyber world from foreign countries as well which make the risks of cyber interaction kind of a hefty one in comparison to the rest of the world.
