Reflection #1

I chose to research and present about breast cancer in men when I read a case study that presented a patient with one and how this patient did not receive proper care for their condition due to the lack of resources and understudied knowledge on the disease, particularly for men. I found this case study, as we had reading hours for my BIOL313, Introduction to NeuroAnatomy. My professor at the time had each of us pair into groups and choose different case study topics to read & present in class. This was to apply the knowledge we learned in lecture to real-life situations. There are many other fascinating aspects of the world of science, specifically medicine. But it is the mere fact that I was perplexed to find out that breast cancer can exist in men under those circumstances, which had made me wonder, how many individuals are unaware of this male breast cancer & its limited resources.

With Biol 405, I believe that by starting to write about male breast cancer, I could somewhat deliver what is currently known and what else needs to be studied about the disease. At the start of the semester, as I rummaged through the internet for resources about male breast cancer, I was worried that I would not be able to deliver a great amount of information about the disease, or that I did not have the qualities in me to put into words the effects, causes, and start of male breast cancer. I created a draft that did not turn out well at first, but as I continued to receive feedback from another student in the same class, I grew more confident in my writing and in how to best summarize what male breast cancer is all about.
