There is no true way to tell if your computer is truly safe because there are viruses and malware out there that can’t be detected until it’s too late. What you can do is keep up with preventive updates that will combat any known attacks that may be floating around the web that has been documented or introduced to the malicious library to cyber-attacks. As I mentioned before, the up keep on your computer is crucial to keeping it safe and in my opinion, everything starts with the firewall. If your firewall is working hackers won’t be able to see you online when they are looking for people to attack. Then there’s your anti-virus protection program that keeps your computer up to date with all known attacks. A good anti-virus program will make a difference between you staying safe or becoming a victim. Finally, your web browsers will play a huge role, by alerting you of suspect sites that may cause you harm. So, if you avoid streaming and downloading pirated movies and music, your status for being safe just went up.

Three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe:

SAFER:

Data Encryption – Has prevented fewer hackers from getting their hands on your information

Online Banking – with the implementation to secondary verification banking online worries have lessened from earlier concerns

Remote Home Security- In the past all you had an alarm or a CCTV to deter criminals from breaking into your house. But now you can buy a security system that comes with an app that you can control through your smart phone and have security 24/7 where you are in the world.

LESS SAFER:

Communications Between Safety Departments – During 9/11 technology showed that it was not able to handle the disaster where different agencies need to organize their resources to get people to safety. Since then, improvements have been made but we won’t know if they are enough until the next disaster.

Improved Rolling News Coverage – Anyone can put out information on the web, being true or false it can spread like wildfire and cause chaos throughout society.

Adapting To Constant Change – Man is always looking to improve his everyday life, so technology needs to grow the same way.
