A person’s computer being safe depends solely on the person who owns the computer. There are various ways to ensure security of your device. One of the main things a person will need to make sure their computer is safe is to have a strong password. The password should include uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and unique characters. Typically, passwords should contain at least twelve characters, but the longer the password is, the more secure your computer will be. In addition to that, your password shouldn’t contain any PII (Personal Identifiable Information) or any common sequences that are easy to guess. You should also be very careful when it comes to storing your passwords onto your computer, if you do decide to store them, it would be best to make sure it is encrypted. Another important thing to do when it comes to password security is to change them regularly.

Along with making sure you have a secure password is to perform regular updates. Some people have a default setting for automatic updates that way they know that the updates are getting done and they don’t have to constantly remember when to do the software updates. However, if you don’t want the computer to do automatic software updates you should regularly check to see if there are any new updates needed on your computer if so, you should perform the update. This helps to make sure programs on your computer run smoothly and can assist in preventing security issues.

An extra step someone can take to ensure safety is to have antivirus software installed on their computer. This software can detect malware and remove the viruses if any have been found. If in the event, malware is on your device, your data can be stolen and encrypted, leaving the person unable to access their information. So, installing anti virus software is necessary and is extra protection for your computer.
