Sports Journal Reflections Submission
Folks, this is my last submission on this blogsite. I appreciate everyone who has tuned in 🙂
Through this course in Sport Communication, I have come to realize how important having a website is… especially for someone trying to climb the ranks of sports media. That was my main takeaway from this course. I’ve already written the Game Reports, I’ve already written a few Feature Stories, but I’ve never had to make a website. So having a website and being able to say I am the one who designed it will be really valuable in the long run.
This is also where I will have to establish trust with a client or future employer by providing galleries of my work, an about me section, links to my other portfolio sites, and my social media pages.
Although I won’t use WordPress in the future, the work I have done on my site will help me make my real one on Squarespace. This one will be perfect for me because I won’t have to worry about uploading high file sizes.
The stories I wrote will be great collections to add to my writing portfolio as well. I want to show employers that I am an all-around good storyteller.
I enjoyed writing the Game Report on ODU Lacrosse and most certainly enjoyed connecting and interviewing Mitchell Pehlke. It was fun coming up with those interview questions and figuring out how to connect his answers in a way that flowed.
I’m most grateful for being able to connect with Kourtney Carroll from the Commanders, thanks to our Pen Pal assignments. This pen pal connection has opened it up for me to contact her about anything. Whether that is for an assignment for this class or any question I can think of.
I also really enjoyed the Infographic assignment. I was able to add onto what I had and make it into an interactive carousel meant for Instagram, where you can scroll and read through Kourtney’s journey through her own words and pictures (visual history style). Never went to upload that due to how busy I was with the requests from Football, my workflow from spring ball, adding more to my skillset, and the amount of work I had from school. (I can still send it to you when finished if you’re interested. I mainly added onto it for the love of the game.)
Overall, I am looking forward to taking what I learned from this course. The way we view sports has changed so much in recent years. Someone like me, who runs a sports account (@odufootball) needs to be on the lookout for how people are consuming their sports content. This will help me find trends that are worth hopping on and give me an idea of what content ODU Fans might like seeing.
