Hello, my name is Frank Yurasko, my objective for attending ODU is to become a mechanical engineer. Even though I don’t know the exact career that I want to pursue after college, what I do know is that I like math, science, and solving problems. I hope to use the knowledge I acquired throughout my courses to help further my engineering abilities. Specifically for fluid mechanics, many subjects would benefit my engineering journey.

This course will also help me with my educational goals as while I am at college, I also want to find what I truly love about engineering, such as fluid mechanics or thermodynamics, so that I have a better understanding of what career I want to pursue. With this in mind, I am going to go into this course with an open mind and ensure that I take as many notes as I can, ensuring that I get a full grasp of concepts regarding fluid mechanics.

This is also helped by fluid mechanics being a large part of mechanical engineering through pipes, buoyancy, ships, and tanks. Pipes are used throughout this course to transport fluids to a from a certain destination, and we need to figure out certain pressures to ensure proper and consistent flow at a certain rate. Additionally, ships need to stay upright in the water and must stay buoyant, so making sure that their center of gravity is in between the metacenter and the center of buoyancy. As of now, these are just a few of the topics that not only help me understand fluid mechanics but show me what I may be interested in career-wise.

Overall, I hope this class can teach me plenty about engineering so that I can go into the engineering field with an idea of what to expect.
