How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
As cyber technology is growing so is the opportunities for workplace deviance, also called an insider threat in the cyber world. This can be something as little as playing a silly prank on a coworker or as major as stealing and selling proprietary company information. What ever the severity of the threat may be it should always be the companies goal to mitigate that threat. Cyber technology has made it easier for employees to be deviant because most of the time employees work from home, people feel more comfortable to do as they please when they are online and especially when they feel they are in a safe environment. For example say an employee got fired, if the correct cyber security technologies are in place, that ex-employee could do great harm to the organization. This could be done by sabotaging systems that are critical, or they could export sensitive data. They could then sell that data to competitors are just release it to the public depending on their goal. Workplace deviance can not be prevented 100 percent just like many other things in cybersecurity. But it can be reduced greatly by using correct and secure cyber security insider policies. This can be policies like onboarding & offboarding, user account policies, access control, auditing, separation of duties, mandatory vacations and many more.
