Assignment Takeaway 2

Letting time control or dictate how we act has become a norm and it is not thought to be a negative influence on human behavior.  After reading the article and comparing how other cultures let time control their behaviors, I have noticed that we Americans are so worried about not having the best that money can buy or that we should not settle with being content with what we have. In chapter 5, cultural differences in self-concepts were discussed and different domains of one’s self. Several domains make up a self and each take up time or are controlled by time. However it is learned through an individual’s culture how time is allowed to control or be a driving factor which domain is more important then the other.

I guess the best way I could relate Time and Control on Americans to my life would be to compare it to my current lifestyle. I am so busy trying to get my education in order to get a better job which in turn will raise my monetary income higher than the normal average income. All my time is used to study and work to pay bills. I feel that if I cannot get a great job and have money to spend on whatever I want or take my kids on vacation that I am not being the best parent I can be. Everyday I feel the pressure of not having enough time to take care of every aspect of my life and it causes a lot of stress.
