Based off the “Who I am ?” statements, most of my statements are associated with the independent construal of self. Statements 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 are associated with independent construal of self and statements 2, 3, 8, 10 are associated with interdependent construal of self. I do believe that I am more independent than interdependent. Any proverb that is an expression of independent self will be a statement about a single trait to set an individual apart from others and to satisfy one’s purpose. Interdependent proverbs are statements that express an individual’s purpose for everyone else but themselves. I think it would be easier to think of independent self proverbs since I know that I am more independent and less interdependent.

I learned that I need to change up my study methods since I didn’t do as well as I thought I would. I instead of adding on notes as I read from one chapter to the next, which would of helped me review earlier lessons more often, I did them separately. I did find out that I had more troubled in chapter then the rest. Hopefully next exam I will be better prepared.

After taking the the NEO personality test, I discovered that my T-scores for Neuroticism, Openness, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness dimensions were within the average zone. Neuroticism, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness were high average and Openness was a low average. The Extraversion dimension I scored high in the high zone. This would make sense as that I am always optimistic, sociable, and I always seek out or go for what I want. These characteristics can be seen within my everyday activities such as school, choice of career and my community of friends. For Openness, which was my low average T-score is definitely consistent with my personality. I am not one to believe or engage in fantasy. I am to realistic and logical for that behavior. I also have a hard time opening up with my feelings. Neuroticism, another average personality trait for me, is consistent in regards to anxiety, self-consciousness and vulnerability. I tend to open myself fully to people I meet in life and not think twice about guarding myself. The last two dimensions, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness, I believe that my T-scores should have been high and not average. I believe these two personality dimensions are my strongest suits. Morality, organization, competence, trust are the main traits that I follow and also try to instill in my children.

I chose to make my word cloud in the shape of my initials. The reason I did this is because these words are a reflection of who I am, my strong suits.

First Degree from ODU with my nest friend and sister. We spent many days and nights motivating each other to finish strong! Even though she is finished her education, she still motivates me when I call on her!

I chose to continue my education because I wanted to have the knowledge needed for the career I am pursing. It is hard to get a good job and be able to move up in the ranks when you do not have the knowledge required to perform. My mom was a college student when I was a teenager but she didn’t finish her degree as that she felt she waited to long. However, she encourages me to keep going. My children are the number one reason I am continuing on in my studies. When I have tests or papers due, they always remind me to study and to focus every day. I am proud of them for supporting me as that it encourages them to do well in school too. I started my associates back in 1997 but I only completed a couple courses. In 2015 I went back to school determined to finish my degree. I got my Associates in Science from TCC in 2017 and then my Bachelor of Science from ODU in 2019. So really I have my mom, my daughters and my best friend to thank for pushing me forward in my educational goals.

I chose this picture because it made me think of Origins of Culture. Although five of the fish are orange and the sixth fish is green, they are all fish. They need water to live in, they are all from the “goldfish” family and they eat and reproduce the same way. But they are not all the same color, why? What other differences do these fish have?

I am taking Cross-Cultural Psychology in hopes that this course will help me gain a better understanding and a skill set to interact with others from different cultures. I will be moving in within the next couple of years to live in the Dominican Republic and also plan to travel to other countries such as Japan, Spain and Germany. All these countries have their own unique cultures which differ from my american culture. Understanding such diverse cultures will allow me adapt and appreciate the values, customs and behaviors which make it unique. I would like to learn about how cultures compare and contrast their religion, law, social status and so forth among each other. The only strategy I have to implement this semester is to keep my nose in the books and try to get ahead as much as possible.
