Making Connections
The Old Dominion University’s LeADERS program connects students to courses and real world experiences in the areas of: Leadership, Academic Internship, Diversity, Entrepreneurship, Research, or Service Learning. This LeADERS ePortfolio shares how my experiences in the areas of Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Academic Internship have supported my personal and professional development.
Reflecting Back
- I joined LeADERS to stand out.
- The most significant challenge I encountered while attending LeADERS was that I didn’t take advantage of the program until my last semester making it more difficult to ensure I met all the requirements in a short amount of time.
- Some significant successes that I had while in LeADERS courses was being able to apply what I learned in the class room to real life. This can be read more in-depth in the other tabs of this website (Leadership, Diversity, Entrepreneurship, Academic Internship and Service Learning).
- I see all of my LeADERS experiences connecting to one another through my current position at work. There I am able to directly apply the key concepts I have learned directly to my job.
Here is an example from my CPS 410 class from the summer of 2019 that showed me a great example of how to not only reflect on myself, but use this when helping my team review themselves as well: CPS 410 RBS
Looking Forward
- I look forward to attaining my master’s in Engineering Management, becoming lead general foreman and applying more of what I have learned to that position.
- The LeADERS classes I have taken have given me the confidence and knowledge to succeed and become disciplined in seeking understanding before acting.
Skills that employers are seeking that I have learned in the LeADERS program include working in a team structure, making decisions, solving problems, verbal communication, analyzing quantitative and qualitiative data, demonstrating technical knowledge, planning, organizing and prioritizing work, obtaining and processing information, demonstrating computer software proficiency, creating and editing reports and influencing and selling to others.
