Born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, I have always had a deep love for Baltimore sports, passionately supporting the Ravens and Orioles. My grandfather (pictured above), a passionate fan himself, even went so far as to buy a school bus, paint it purple, and use it to drive groups to Baltimore for every Ravens home game to tailgate. Complete with built-in grills for tailgating, the bus became a symbol of our shared devotion to the team. This deep connection to these two franchises has inspired my career goals in sports public relations, where I strive to connect athletes, organizations, and fans through meaningful and effective communication.
I am currently completing my capstone project for my masters degree which focuses on athlete activism. The research delves into how athletes leverage their platforms to advocate for social justice, examining the historical context, motivations, and impacts of their activism. By analyzing athletes such as Colin Kaepernick & Naomi Osaka, I aim to understand the role of digital media in amplifying athletes voices and the implications for public relations strategies within sports organizations. As a part of this research, I am developing a comprehensive playbook that outlines strategies for athletes and public relations professionals to effectively navigate and promote activism within the sports industry.
To showcase my passion for sports, particularly football and the Baltimore Ravens, I have developed this WordPress blog that will serve as a comprehensive portfolio of my work. This platform will feature analyses, articles, and projects, including my capstone on athlete activism. I hope that this blog highlights my expertise and enthusiasm for the sports industry, ultimately assisting me in securing a position within the sports communication world.
