My time in this virtual classroom space was something I didn’t expect.  At the start of the semester, I was a little worried about how the class would operate because I’m not the biggest fan of online courses. Once the modules started and I was getting used to the pace, I adjusted to the class. This semester was a heavy workload, so I’m grateful this class didn’t add more stress. Having 2 weeks to complete the work was appreciated and needed. Taking this course has given me a new perspective on sports and media.

At the beginning of the course, the Work-Based Learning assignment set the pace. Looking for jobs in the industry that I’m interested in helped me get a better understanding of what is field is all about.

The most challenging part of the course was navigating WordPress. Before WordPress, my only experience I’ve had with website making was with Wix. I know that I have to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to learning new programs, so I’m grateful this course allowed me to practice that skill.

An opportunity that I enjoyed from this course was Pen Pal. It showed me how useful your connections can be if you reach out promptly. I’ve never used outside connections for assignments, but I enjoyed it. My favorite part of the Pen Pal experience was creating the infographic. This semester, I’ve been creating more things, and this was used as another practice to perfect the skills I’ve gained so far.

Module 6 was my favorite module; learning more about activism in the sports realm was interesting. I already knew about the Colin Kaepernick scandal, but this assignment allowed me to dig deeper into it.

Overall, this course provided great lectures and assignments. Looking at sports through the communications lens was insightful and helped me direct my future career path.
