E-Portfolio #10

Security engineers are important in keeping our cyber networks safe. Security engineers are responsible for testing and screening security software and for monitoring networks and systems for security breaches or intrusions. They can often resolve possible causes of security threats early on by looking at things from a security perspective and recommending enhancements to management. Some of the main duties and responsibilities security engineers have include developing a set of security standards and practices, creating new ways to solve existing production security issues, and installing and using software. The software can include firewalls and data encryption programs. Security engineers also have to constantly monitor networks and systems for security breaches. They have to test security solutions using industry standard analysis criteria, supervise changes in software, hardware, and user needs, and lead investigations into how breaches happen. Security engineers also have to be investigative individuals which means they need to be intellectual, introspective, and inquisitive. They also have to be methodical, rational, logical, ambitious, and optimistic in order to carry out their day-to-day work. Security engineers are highly sought after and it is a career that is exponentially growing along with the growth of technology and jobs that require the use of computers. They are also needed in connection with this exponential growth because as the use of computers and their technology grows in the workplace, so does the risk involved in running theses programs and businesses. More and more people use computers on a daily basis, but more and more hackers and malicious people are also looking to cause harm to certain systems. Therefore, the need for cyber security engineers is growing and will continue to grow because our use of computers is. We rely on them to protect our servers, firewalls and personal information now more than ever in this technologically advanced world.
