There are many costs and benefits when implementing a cyber security program in a business. When implementing new programs and protocols in a business, the goals are to create a safer environment to transfer, send, and receive data, and to implement new measures of communication between computers inside and outside of the company in a safe way.  Some of the benefits include safer communication between employees and the protection of customers personal information. Sometimes, for example, businesses are not in control or paying attention to who has access to certain things. This means that some employees at the lower level may have access to other employees’ financial records, health records, or the firewall without having the qualifications to have this access. This can be fixed by implementing a new cybersecurity program in which sensitive information is not available to just anyone.  Things like the implementation of firewalls and virus blockers can help in doing this. Another benefit is the protection of the company and its assets overall. When cyber security programs are implemented in a business, those employees are more likely to abide by the rules and regulations set in place by the new program and are more likely to put them into practice. The costs include the physical cost of implementing such programs. It can be costly to hire employees with knowledge of firewalls and cyber security regulations. Many times, when updating a program or a business as protocols, training for employees is also involved. This can be costly as well as time consuming and can be frustrating at times when employees do not show interest or pay attention in those trainings. It is imperative however, to make sure that employees are following new regulations and security implementations to be sure that the company can remain safe. Although the costs seem rigorous, the benefits many times outweigh them.
