Computers are arguably the best invention that has come out of the 21st-century. They are used in our day-to-day life to make interactions, communication, and our work easier. As with everything however, there are pros and cons to the use of computers. In some ways, computers have made our lives safer, and in others, it has made it less safe. Some of the ways in which it has made it safer for us involve the medical industry. Computers and healthcare technology have made it possible for the healthcare industry to expand and for us to make major breakthroughs in biotechnology. For example, computers help scientists to develop cures for some critical diseases that in the past couple centuries, were considered uncurable. One example of this has been the increase in life expectancy is due to the result of proper diagnosis and the use of the correct medicines. These medicines were only made possible through the use of computers and their technologies. Another example is the development of vaccines in such a short time span. We see this with the many different coronavirus vaccines that have been produced and manufactured so quickly in response to the pandemic. Because of this technology, the death toll has been greatly reduced in comparison to many of the other world pandemics. For example, the black death pandemic in the 1350’s was responsible for the death of 1/3 of the world’s population. While the death toll from Covid-19 has been very severe as well, it does not compare to that of previous pandemics. On the contrary, computers have also brought on more danger into the world. Although not physically dangerous, the economic standing of many individuals has plummeted quite a bit since computers and robots have taken over many of the jobs that humans used to do. While many argue that computers are adding jobs to the market, job security is still a very sensitive subject.
