Welcome

Welcome to the College of Sciences Undergraduate Research page!

The College offers many opportunities for students to get involved in research. Some majors offer course-based research where you are introduced to research as part of a lab. Joining a faculty member’s lab is another way to get involved. To find these opportunities:

  • talk to professors in classes you enjoy
  • ask your advisor for help.
  • browse the department’s website
  • browse posters in the department’s hallways
  • talk to fellow undergraduates about their experiences
  • attend the Undergraduate Research Symposium

Participating in a research lab requires a time commitment. You should expect to commit 6-10 hours per week on your project. Your faculty mentor may be able to pay you for your efforts or you may volunteer or take credits for the experience. Check here for ways to fund your research experience.

What are the benefits of undergraduate research?

  • hands-on experience to prepare you for graduate school or a great job
  • letters of recommendation from faculty that know you
  • publishing your work in peer-reviewed journals
  • travel to conferences to network and present your work

The more time and effort you invest, the more of these benefits you’ll get.
