This game of the Washington Wizards vs Utah Jazz has been highly anticipated on a Thursday night has been highly anticipated. The excitement comes from the long-awaited debut of Washington Wizards guard Trae Young. Young was traded to the Washington Wizards prior to the NBA trade deadline in January of 2026. He has been with the team since, but hasn’t been able to play due to a knee injury that’s kept him on the sidelines since he was in Atlanta. So far, he has been able to play only 10 games and, within that time, he has averaged 19.3 points, 8.9 assists, and 1.5 rebounds. He will be on a minutes restriction tonight, however, of only 20 minutes for three quarters. Coach Keefe’s message to Young: “Go enjoy it, have fun. He’s a basketball player, he’s done this before, he’ll be fine.”
As the game starts, the Utah Jazz are able to win the tipoff, and Utah guard Isaiah Collier is able to get his team on the board with a two-pointer. However, Trae Young is able to drive down the lane and score his first points as a Wizards player with a left-handed layup. As the quarter goes on, it is a back-and-forth affair of the Wizards and Jazz trading buckets. The Jazz, however, are able to build a 8 point lead, making it 37-25 at the end of the 1st with the help of the rookie Ace Bailey 11pts. While Leaky Black led the way for the Wizards with 8pts.
In the second quarter, the Jazz continued their dominance by having good offensive positions and impactful defensive plays. Ace Bailey is also continuing to create offence by putting up 10 pts in the quarter, bringing him to 21pts before the 2nd half. On the other side, Leaky Black has cooled off, but Anthony Gill puts up 8 pts and has some crucial plays to try and keep the Wizards in the game. A name to keep track of is Juian Reese, who is in his third official start with the team since signing a 2-way contract, and has 8 rebounds in the first half. Young finishes with 5pts in the first half and a 3 assist as he’s trying to get acclimated to the flow of the game. The end of the first half ends in a score of 67-49 for Utah.
To start the second half, Trae Young is able to make a step-back three-pointer while getting fouled. As the quarter continued, it was the same story as in the previous half. The Wizards are trying to fight their way back into this game, even outshooting Utah in the third quarter 26-35, but unfortunately, it isn’t enough. The Jazz continue to build their lead this time, Isaiah Collier scoring 9pts and Ace Bailey scoring 8pts. This would ultimately be the last quarter that we would see of Trae Young with his minutes restriction tonight. Young ended with 12pts, 6 ast, and 2stls in 20 minutes. Tre Johnson is also able to contribute with 9pts, and Julian Reese is on pace to have a monster rebound game because he currently has 14 rebounds. To finish out the second half, the Wizards were able to make it a ten-point game at the end of the third quarter. However, the Jazz were not phased by Washington’s pressure and were able to answer whenever they scored. Jazz would win the game with Ace Bailey leading the team with 32pts. Julian Reese was able to lead the Wizards with 18pts and 20rebs. The Final score was 122-112.
