Meet Lauren!

The individual I interviewed is Lauren Allen. Lauren is a registered nurse who works at Johnston Willis Hospital. She is most commonly seen in the ER! Lauren has also worked as a Travel Nurse, and her highest degree is a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (even though in the interview she stated it was an Associates). Lauren was inspired growing up to become a nurse after watching her grandma in the hospital suffer from lung cancer. Staying in the hospital often with her grandma allowed her to see how important nurses are, and she knew from then what she wanted to do. Lauren stated that her work environment is in fact not sustainable, but it is a very important aspect in her work environment. Lauren also mentions multiple times about the lack of nurses in the workforce, and this is a big issue when it comes to sustainability in the work environment. Something I have taken away from interviewing Lauren is realizing how overworked nurses actually are, and how many patients they are taking care of at one time. Another thing that I learned and that surprised me is how overworked they are, but their voices aren’t being heard about what they need in order to continue doing their job to the best of their abilities. Nurses are human too, and have needs they need fulfilled while working long shifts. Lauren is a spectacular nurse and someone I will look up to when pursuing a career in the health field in the future.
