Exploring Culture

The assignments in this course allowed me to practice understanding other cultures. Learning about the habits of other cultures was very empowering.

The assignments given on other cultures helped me to see other practice around the global. I was very interesting to see the differences in social cultures. The assignments that allowed research allowed me to see what other cultures value. It was very effective in seeing why things are the way they are. I think learning about other people’s traditions makes you appreciate people’s difference.  

Engaging in Communities

I believe it is very important to engage in your immediate community as well as the global community. Being able to engage with others can not only help you socialize but it can help other people feel seen and heard.

I have always been community centered, and I appreciate people being in fellowship with one another. Learning Spanish allows me to socialize with more people and become part of a bigger community.

Interpersonal Communication

The oral assignments from this Spanish course were very interesting. I liked being able to practice speaking in Spanish aloud and hearing it back. The activities allowed for a better understanding of speaking in Spanish. The writing assignments were interesting but having audio along with it made it more engaging.

I personally did not like the spontaneous communication activities because it did not allow time for me to practice before engaging. I like to practice before collaborating so I would prefer to be told. I did like speaking to a certain degree however. I thought it was great for bettering social skills. I think overall I grew over the course of this semester as a Spanish speaker.

Presentational Speaking

I did not like speaking for presentations. I do not like speaking to other people for the most part I prefer to learn alone. Speaking in front of other is very intimidating.

I do believe I did well on my presentations. I may not have liked having to do them; however, I do think that I did well enough. I believe the presentations helped me grow. I think in the future I could do better on presentations. When it came to vocabulary, saying the words aloud in presentations was a good experience.

Presentational Writing

I think doing presentational writing was better than presentations. I preferred doing written work to speaking. The posts were very interesting for me.

I believe I did good in writing. The assignments for writing were interesting and time consuming. I think the time it took was worth it. For the written portion I did have some difficulties with formulating the sentences. I think I did well enough on the written portions though.

Interpretive Listening

The interpretive listening exercise were interesting. The provided good practice for listening.

The interpretive listening exercises were important to the course. I provided another way to get information. The writing and speaking were good, however the ability to listen was also extremely important. At times it was challenging for me to understand what the audio was saying, but in the end it was very helpful. The interpretive listing was vital to growing through out this course.

Interpretive Reading

Interpretive reading was very interesting. I liked being able to read. The websites were a good resource.

The reading in this course was very important. It helped me grow. Reading the stories provided a different perspective. There was much learning for me through the readings in this course. I think the interpretive reading is one of the things that helped me the most in this course.
