  1. Wow! I didn’t realize that law libraries would allow anyone to check out books. That is great of someone wants to for example represent themselves in a court case. It is nice that they provide lockers while you work. I’m glad that it seems as though this library is diverse.

  2. It’s nice to know that there are Law Libraries that are welcoming and easy to access. The gardens sound lovely. I’m glad you had such a positive experience on your visit.

  3. I’m so glad you got to visit this library! It’s great that they have offices for students from other countries—I wonder how common that is at other special/hybrid libraries housed at universities or if it’s something unique to UVA. It’s also interesting to read about all of the different job titles in the law library and makes me want to learn more about the Legal Data Lab.

    1. Yes, I wanted to know more about that too. But the Manager of that department wasn’t there. Most librarians were on vacation at the time of visit.

  4. Hi Stephanie! I’m glad that you were able to visit a special library at UVA and that you still feel it is a place that you would like to work or be a patron yourself some day! I found it interesting that anyone in Virginia could check out materials. I assumed that it would be reserved only for UVA Law students or staff. I checked out their website, and I saw that they offer a service called “myLab” in which law students can get complimentary coffee or tea and participate in stress relieving activities such as coloring or folding origami. I imagine that law school can be quite high pressure, so I love that they offer a way for patrons to relieve some of the stress while studying!

    1. Yes, it is amazing in that retrospect. The law library asked the student what they wanted and they delivered on. Getting free coffee and tea threw out the day does sound great. They only have to bring their own mugs. The library helps the students in every way possible.

  5. I’m glad that the law library website is easy to navigate, as law students have a lot to learn and study. It would be frustrating for them if the library’s website were difficult to use. I didn’t know that libraries could have book lockers. I think it’s interesting how the law library has offices for students who got a different degree in another country. Would that also include international students? I like how UVA law library provides accommodations for those who are visually impaired, a different reading or language ability. This should be something that all libraries provide for their patrons.

    1. The offices were for LLM students who have a masters in another country and who are getting their law degree at the University. I think some of them may be professors and that’s why they get the offices.
