Body language and reactions are influenced by culture. I have learned that some cultures shake hands as a friendly gesture whereas others do not see it as friendly. Barack Obama shook hands with a guard whereas the prime minister did not. People with more power, no matter what culture they are from, will always stand tall or sprawled out to show that they are superior. Others around them will shriek and try to make themselves appear smaller as they are intimidated by dominance. The more confident a person is the more proudly they stand. When a person is insecure they will try to appear to be invisible.

I am normally a happy person. I always have a smile on my face and something to keep me laughing. One day at work my boss asked me how it was going and I had a complete mental breakdown. Tears were falling uncontrollably. It came out of nowhere. I felt so sad and hopeless. The subtrait involved in this episode that was not like myself was depression and the major subtrait was neuroticism. I was happy all the time, but depression has become the new norm.
Shopping makes all girls happy. I love shopping and buying things for myself. I went to the mall and one store was so crowded that it was hard to maneuver in. My chest started getting tight and I felt like I could not breathe. I had to step outside and get a breath of fresh air. Crowds used to not bother me, but now the subtrait of anxiety has entered my life. It is also from the major subtrait of neuroticism.

Going to the beach makes me happy. It is so peaceful and calm. The waves seems to wash away all of my worries in the world. Different things do make people happy at certain times in their lives. For young children, they make just want ice cream or a sweet treat and be happy. A young teen may want a car to be happy. An older adult may just want to spend time with grandchildren to be happy. Better physical health leads to happiness. The healthier you are the more you can get out and do activities and live a happy life.

All cultures have objects that represent their nationality and each and every one of those are just as important as another. I am an American, therefore the American flag stands for my nationality. The thirteen stripes symbolize the British colonies that declared freedom from Great Britain. The fifty stars stand for the fifty states in the United States. The white represents innocence, the red represents bravery, and the blue represents justice. “I am proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.”

The picture I decided to draw is very simple, but it has big meaning to myself. It is the adoption symbol. This symbol is everything to me because I was adopted by my aunt and uncle due to my mother being mentally ill. I called my aunt and uncle “mom” and “dad.” They taught me many life values. They taught me the concept of love, caring, strength, and kindness. They molded me to be the strong, independent woman I am today. I lost my mom last year and that pushes me even further to be successful and hold my values close to my heart. I plan on adopting a child one day and showing them the love and compassion I was fortunate enough to experience.
