Why This Campaign Works
This campaign directly reflects what I learned from Charles Walls. He emphasized that building a successful team isn’t just about talent, it’s about fit, character, and development.
“Beyond the Stats” takes that behind-the-scenes mindset and brings it forward for fans to actually see. It gives the audience a deeper understanding of what goes into building a team and creates a stronger emotional connection between players and fans.
And honestly, that’s where sports media is heading: people want real stories, not just highlights.
The Role of My Penpal
Charles Walls played a key role in shaping this project. His insight into player evaluation and team dynamics helped guide the direction of my campaign and pushed me to think beyond surface-level ideas.
At the same time, I was mindful of his time and role in this process. I used his perspective as a foundation, but developed the campaign independently. His advice about building relationships, taking initiative, and not waiting for opportunities really stayed with me and influenced how I approached this entire project.
Reflection
This experience genuinely changed how I view the sports industry. Before this, I mostly saw sports from a fan perspective, games, stats, and outcomes. Now, I understand how much strategy, communication, and intentional decision-making happen behind the scenes. It also reminded me how important it is to take initiative. Reaching out might seem like a small step, but it can lead to real opportunities and meaningful connections.
If there’s one thing I’m taking away from this experience, it’s this: opportunities don’t just happen, you create them. And sometimes, it really starts with something as simple as sending a message.
