An Effective Reflection
Through learning Spanish have learned my strengths and weaknesses. I have learned that there are a great number of ups and downs that you have to go through. In this process, I have learned that learning a new language is very difficult. I have started to use Spanish in everyday life and sometimes I catch myself mixing Spanish and English together. I have learned that writing Spanish is also difficult for me to do because many Latin words have accents and I find myself getting confused or even forgetting them at times. I have also learned that I can now formulate whole sentences in Spanish. For example, my roommate, best friend, and I went to a Hispanic restaurant for lunch and I ordered my lunch to the best of my ability in Spanish. I asked the waitress how I did and she said that I did well. So compared to where I was when I started Spanish 101 and now I can see a great amount of growth.
Artifacts
The link below shows the latest project that I have done in class and it shows the skills that I have cultivated

Exploring Culture
Some things that have helped me gain understanding and knowledge of the Latin cultural perspectives are people. I have very many Latin x friends and colleagues that have shown me and taught me about their cultures. They have let me ask questions and have really helped me learn. Before I met had the great opportunity to ask all these questions I had an idea in my head and after I learned more about the culture the more I learned that everything that I originally thought was wrong. For example, I learned that not all Latin cultures have the same cultural practices, I have one friend who is Dominican and one friend that is Mexican and they have very different cultures and perspectives.
Engaging in Communities
In my opinion, I believe that we as a community that we should engage in everyone’s culture to an extent. I believe that we all can experience and appreciate each other’s cultures without appropriating them. I think that it is important to not only engage in other cultures but to most of all respect them.
My experience with the Latin x community has always been great because the Latin x people that I do know appreciate that I want to and am willing to learn more about their culture and community.
Interpersonal Communication
The interpersonal communication portion of Spanish 101 was fun in my opinion. I got to see that I was not the only person struggling in the class. I got to practice with others who were practicing something I was and we were able to help each other out. I believe that actually talking to someone else helped me learn and grow.
Presentational Speaking
Presentation speaking was a really bad experience for me. When presenting my Spanish speaking to someone I get the jitters and start sweating. I forget everything that I have learned and go blank. I would say that was the worst part of this class for me.
Presentational Writing
With presentational writing believe that I do a lot better than I do speaking. With writing, I can sound out the word and write it. I think that writing in Spanish is one of my strong suits in this class.
Interpretive Listening
In Spanish, it is very hard for me to interpret what others are saying. when someone speaks Spanish to me I get scared and my braid freezes in place. I will start to stutter and go blank. The pressure of me needing to respond back immediately scares me.
Interpretive Reading
In Spanish, I believe that I am good at interpreting what I read in Spanish. Even if I do not understand something I just use context clues to try my best to figure it out.
