Professional Goals

Leadership- We all want to advance in our careers and reach the top. This is not a goal about a position of authority but to inspire, guide, and influence others to achieve goals, overcome challenges, and help them succeed. I would love to be able to motivate others to achieve their best work where they can see their potential, support them under challenging obstacles, and celebrate their successes. I also want to lead other teams, manage projects, and navigate organizational challenges, which will help me be considered for high-level opportunities. Leadership goals increase confidence and self-efficacy, which I can continuously improve. I can accomplish anything I want because I trust myself and my abilities. Some things are more complicated to have that mindset, but it’s about having a positive attitude and pushing yourself. Competence and self-assurance are valuable in leadership roles and all aspects of your professional life.

Time Management – Time management helps to manage stress levels and workloads and increases overall productivity and efficiency. I could do better organizing and planning time between different tasks and abilities. I am the person who will start a task, and I must complete it before moving on to the next, which can be very time-consuming. If it is a complex task, it is acceptable to spend some time on it, but say it can be completed in two minutes or less; completing the task right then and there is ideal instead of adding it to a to-do list. I can also work on eliminating distractions, especially when working from home or doing my schoolwork, which will improve my time management skills. Another technique I can use is to develop a habit of planning ahead. I would love to be that person who had a set routine for everything, but unfortunately, I am not. Not only does this help meet deadlines, but it also makes priorities clear and helps get into a productive mindset from the start of the day.

Public Speaking & Communication Skills- Public speaking might be my weakest skill out there. It may never improve because this has been something I have always struggled with, and it has stayed the same over the years. I have even taken public speaking classes to help, but it only made my anxiety worse. I hope that in whatever career I choose, I will not have to public speak, but sometimes you never know, so this is always a skill/goal I want to improve and accomplish. As we all know, communication is vital in pretty much anything. In a healthcare setting, communication is crucial to promote the well-being of patients and for effective service delivery. Public speaking is also a vital goal to have because it plays a significant role in career advancement, personal development, and organizational success. Public speaking improves communication skills, so they both work hand in hand together. It builds confidence, helps to overcome the fear of public speaking, and is personally and professionally valuable. Public speaking and communication skills open the doors to many career opportunities.

Career Satisfaction – After this internship and graduating, I want to land a career I love that aligns with my interests and will help me grow in the field. Career satisfaction is a fundamental professional goal because it directly impacts your well-being, motivation, and long-term success with that job. You’ll never think about leaving when you are satisfied with your job and love what you do. I want a job where I can see myself retiring. Some people say a job is to make money, not friends; I can’t entirely agree because your job is like a second home. People spend an average of 160 hours plus a month just at work. I want the environment to be enjoyable, so I am okay with spending that much time. Career satisfaction has a significant impact on mental and physical health. Being happy in your role and the work environment makes setting healthy boundaries between work and personal life easier.
