Textual Practice: Nichole  on letter writing / epistolary technologies (ENGL701 Tillinghast Final)

Nichole writes, “This presentation focuses on the epistolary act and its historical impact and the significance of the sender and receiver and the I/Thou relationship. A summary of the movement of letters through the use of couriers and later postal services will be given. The social and cultural significance of this textual practice will be discussed including its use in literature and film. As we explore the works of Emily Dickinson, thought will be given to the epistolary act through poetry. Consideration will be given to the materials and aspects of the epistolary act and its continued use in a digital world.”
