Explain how the principles of science [Empiricism, Determinism, Parsimony, Objectivity etc.,] relate to cybersecurity?
The principles of science provide a structured way to both view and develop the field of cybersecurity. Objectivity in cybersecurity can be seen through the data collected and examined by data analysts to help identify trends and differences without bias or personal opinion. This way we can have a reliable way to view the different parts of cybersecurity based on what is actually happening. Parsimony can be seen in the way our security systems are designed with both the users and potential breach in mind. Using this principle it makes creating and implementing cybersecurity simple and seamless. Ethical Neutrality is essential in cybersecurity as to not target certain individuals and demographics or use unwarranted surveillance on people. This ensures a moral or ethical balance is being upheld especially when it comes to people. Determinism can be seen in how we understand and interpret human behavior through technology in cybersecurity. Skepticism should be held at all times when dealing with security infrastructure, nothing is a hundred percent safe and should be trusted. Empiricism aids cybersecurity by going with an evidence-based approach and observation when dealing with both systems and people within the field. With this principle it allows us to not go with our opinions and rely mainly on the data for the truth of what’s really going on.
