Review the articles linked with each individual motive in the presentation page or Slide #4.  Rank the motives from 1 to 7 as the motives that you think make the most sense (being 1) to the least sense (being 7).  Explain why you rank each motive the way you rank it.

My number one in my rank is ‘Multiple Reasons’ because there can always be different reasons as to why criminals commit criminal acts and a ‘multiple reason’ response is the most likely and plausible one. The second in my rank is For money, we live in a capitalistic, for-profit society this results in a primary reason as to why individuals fall into crime. Third in my rank is ‘Revenge’, this can be done in a variety of ways and it has an emotional incentive to follow through with a crime. My fourth place is ‘Political’, this can be seen as a criminal gaining the motive to spread word and demand a change from their government, especially if they are a victim of system acts. Fifth is ‘Recognition’, this as a motivation seems plausible as the online community especially within the hacking community often gain respect for those who commit acts that garner both national and government attention. In a way it immortalizes their name among the community as well as prove to themselves that they could do it. Sixth on my rank is ‘Entertainment’, this motive can work well with boredom as they are both ‘feeling’ based and intangible. The reason why this is so low on my rank is because this isn’t a good enough reason to commit crimes that can negatively affect people’s everyday lives for some momentary gain like being ‘entertained’. Last on my list is ‘Boredom’, individuals tend to stir up problems when they aren’t occupied and this can lead to cases such as child pornography and cyber bullying which isn’t a valid enough reason to commit such acts.
