The score I got after doing the Social Media Disorder Scale (SMD scale) was 2/10 and according to the scoring, it indicates ‘risky usage’. Although this scale was designed for personal insight, I believe the items focused more on behavioral issues like displacement, preoccupation and problems which is useful for a self-reflection for people who may be too attached to it. It lacks a more professional or clinical approach but that isn’t entirely bad because it is effective in its purpose. Different patterns are found across the world because people prioritize the use of social media differently. In some countries it’s normal to spend hours a day on it, while in others it isn’t. Another reason could be the access to technology in certain parts of the world which could indicate a variation of patterns.
