Cybersecurity had not always been on my top things I would like to when growing up. started out with wanting to do law enforcement when I would get out of the Navy. Life happens, and I would get medically retired out and would now need to find a new career path. I stumbled upon cybersecurity and began research on it. Everything about it just seemed fascinating to me. The most interesting thing about it is finding out how people get into networks and how I could be able to stop it. Whether it is someone hacking into people’s bank accounts and stealing their bank information (which has recently happened to me this past year), or someone trying to take down a whole website to hurt a person’s business. With the direction that this world is currently going with technology, it is very important for people to be able to protect themselves for unwanted entry. It also helps create a lot of jobs in the country as well as keeping job security. This was a big reason I decided to get into cybersecurity. I would really like to be able to get back to work for the Department of Defense or some other government agency. I am also currently going back and forth whether or not cybersecurity is right for me, or if I would rather go down the cybercrime route. I feel this would be closer to the law enforcement side of things that I originally wanted to pursue. I am just worried if I go the cybercrime route, there will be some pretty disturbing things I would find. But, if I am being honest, I do not know that much about everything there is to do with cybersecurity, and I can not wait to learn and progress through my time at Old Dominion University.
