Describe four ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information about individuals.

Malicious Hacking: one ethical issue with storing personal information electronically is malicious hacking. Most people will purchase an item online, and then hit the button that say “store data”. Now without even realizing it, you have just given your card information up. All it takes is someone to hack into the data base and they will have access to your card information. Places like google claim to be safe and secure, but how safe and secure is it really? Us normal people have no idea how safe our information is now.

Identity Fraud: another ethical issue is identity fraud. Pretexting is a good example of why your information may not always be safe. Pretexting is when an individual calls a helpdesk pretending to be someone else. They give information that they managed to get about the person to the helpdesk technician. The helpdesk technician then believes they are who they claim to be and then gives them their password. If the helpdesk gives out a password to something very important, you could have a big issue on your hands.

Poor Computer Habits: Some people may become too comfortable and just leave computers unlocked for a person to come by and use. Let’s use contractors in the Navy as an example. They come around all the time while you are in port. All it takes is leaving a computer unlocked and boom, they now have access to everything you do. This, or having a password written down can cause major issues. I feel a lot of people write their passwords down in today’s world and it just takes one person to come by and take a picture of it and now they’re in.

Weak Passwords: Lastly, I believe that weak passwords can cause issues. If a person were able to find out information about you, they may be able to guess your password. For example, dog name, kids, wife, birthdays are just to name a few you should stay away from if you want information on your computer to stay safe.
