How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?

The advancements in cyber technology have placed a large increase in the amount of workplace deviance. From wasting company time by scrolling through different social media platforms, to more serious instances of people using the company’s resources to gain to data without permission. Oxford defines deviance as “the fact or state of departing from usual or accepted standards, especially in social or sexual behavior” (Oxford, 2024). So, this can be just anything that a company would not want you to do. For example, an employee who feels they were fired unjust, may decide to lash out at the company. They may decide to leak information that the company does not want out, or just release some secretes about the company. I feel that this is more likely to happen today than before with the advancements in cyber technology. They may also if they are technologically advanced enough, create a virus to spread throughout the entire company to eat it from the inside. Another scenario may be that a person who was no supposed to have information may try to sell it to a rival company, or a person might just be in serious debt. They get scared, do not know what to do, and they feel like it is the only way out. It is one reason why you can only have a certain amount of debt in the military and keep your security clearance. If you got too much debt, they may suspend your clearance, or even take it away entirely. It is just a way to help protect secret, or top secret information. But, companies do not really have that option unless they have a clearance as well for it. So, a person can just do it and get away with it, possibly without any repercussions to worry about.
