CRISPR Gene Editing is one of the most major bioethical issues of the current era. Humans being able to take control over their genome and divert from natures inherent course is a heavy concept. What happens when humans with quantifiable advantages over unedited humans are created with CRISPR? Does that immediately create a caste system of humanity with the ultra-elites having incredible genetic advantages over the rest of humanity? That seems to be the current course if the technology becomes available for private sector use which the question is only when, not if. On the one hand CRISPR could create an ever wider gap between the ultra wealthy who could afford to have “designer babies” and the general public but on the other hand has a great propensity for good. If ethical and moral parameters are set and kept CRISPR could be one of the greatest assets to humanity. There is the potential to help peoples and cultures over the course of generations become immune to pathological contagions or even to prevent cancer minimizing human suffering across the globe. There should be a multi-national bioethical board which strictly governs the use of CRISPR gene-editing for the good of all man kind rather than let it be consolidated into the hands of the few. Properly governed it could be a great humanitarian asset which could effect the futures of countless peoples. CRISPR is at the end of the day a tool which has a propensity for both great good and bad alike.
