The 7 listed Individual Motives ranked from the most sensible (1) to the least (7)

  1. Multiple reasons: I believe individual motive can be complex and a person will often choose a course of action based on multiple factors. Only viewing a situation from a single lens often leaves out much of the information surrounding the truth of the matter.
  2. For Money: Economic strife is an issue which has plagued humanity since civilization was founded. Poverty can be a huge motivator because existence does not come easily and desperate action is unfortunately very likely and to a degree understandable. It costs money to survive so if you or your family does not have money, you will act on it.
  3. Revenge: Being wronged creates intense emotions and the desire for retribution can be overwhelming. There are endless tales of someone having something precious unjustly taken from them only for the victim to devote their life to the revenge of that taking.
  4. Political: Beliefs are also core to a person’s identity and politics are the reflection of that onto the governmental structure the person finds themselves under. Being tied to the ego if the identity is threatened then action to change that fact is inherent and a very understandable motivator.
  5. Entertainment: This is where the drop off of sensibility truly begins. Not because boredom is a strange occurrence but because it is a struggle which must be learned to deal with early in life. Ideally boredom should not motivate because that requires almost no other motivations to be in place.
  6. Recognition: This is just an almost narcissistic motivator because is it entirely wrapped up in how much an individual values being praised by others. This can be affirming but the more a person is motivated by this the more the motive should be questioned.
  7. Boredom: This only makes sense in the absolute void of other motivators when there is truly nothing else left.
