A proposed solution to this problem is to implement a buddy system known the “E-Buddy”. The system works to pair two online students or an online student and an in-person student who have the same class and same instructor. This system could be implemented through Canvas to add security and integrity so no unauthorized person that is not affiliated with the university or specific class could be chosen.

Furthermore, many canvas notifications go to canvas and the associated student email which helps to ensure that the message is received by users. Additionally, there should be an option to opt-out or replace your “E-Buddy” in the case of the fellow student being unprofessional or unresponsive. The system is helpful for students that need a peer to gain clarity for an assignment or have questions when a professor isn’t available.
