When it comes to the integration of computers in operations, it allows new opportunities to arise because of how much easier it is to exploit digital systems. I mentioned in one of my comments that white collar crime affects something physical, but cybercrime primarily affects digital. These new opportunities were created by the development and implementation of fully digital systems or information, which can be easily copied and stolen for someones motive.
I believe the overlap between white collar and cybercrime is because nowadays both typically involve similar methods. I think a pretty solid example of this would be an accountant with access to client finances. They could easily mark the sheets differently or transfer funds and write them off as something completely different, attempting to get more money out of someone. Even someone in the IT department, who might abuse the companys system for their own advantage, like viewing information or altering information that would be typically restricted from viewing.
When it comes to physical crimes, it’s way easier to get caught I think, and this is due of course the physical evidence present, or it being easily viewed by other people. When it comes to stealing digitally, lets say company money for this instance, it can be hidden by a front (fee, temporary transfer, etc) or system logs. It also feels easier to get away with it, as it’s instant and the risks of being noticed or getting punished feel not as present when committing something that feels anonymous.
