Writing Reflection One
Without a doubt my writing has improved tremendously since the start of college. With every essay, I write, I can tell that my writing skills have progressed. I have become more conscious of gramatical rules and how to use them, be it correctly placing a comma in places I normally would not have, or correctly spelling more difficult words. At this point, I have identified my writing strengths and weaknesses, and plan to address these weaknesses.
Being in my sixth week of college I have been able to recognize where my strengths are when it comes to writing essays. I am quite skilled in staying focused on the topic of my essays. Before college, my essays would drift off-topic from time to time. Because of my University class, this is no longer the case. Another strength of mine is the ability to form a detailed body paragraph in a more concise way. This is as a result of me constructing my body paragraphs based on my thesis. Every section of my body paragraph is organized around a topic sentence.
When it comes to my weakness as a writer, it would be my tendency to make informal sentences. For some unknown reason, i have trouble making formal sentences. Most of the time when I read my essays back to myself I’m able to figure out where the formal sentences are. Other times its a whole other story. By this I mean, on occasions I might end up skipping one or two of these sentences just because of how unnoticeable my mistakes were. To address this problem I plan to study the difference between the informal and formal sentences. With the new information from my research, I should be able to distinguish between the two.
Although, my writing skills have improved, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t areas I can improve on. I know my strengths and weaknesses, and since I am young, there is still moretime to learn. With my determination and will to learn, I will constasntly try to improve my writing and my desire to become a better writer motivates me. By the time I am out of college, and pursuing my career, I can happily look back and feel content about all the backbreaking work that I devoten to my education.
