Portfolio #4

As defined in earlier studies, Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting computer networks, the servers, networks, mobile devices, and the data stored in the devices against cybercriminals, cyberattacks, or unauthorized use of electronic data or means to achieve them. Technological advancements within the cyber world have developed enormous vulnerabilities in all facilities that have employed or incorporated any level of networking to enhance production and distribution.

Millions of jobs are opening in the market as new technologies’ development opens new ways for cybercriminals. This risk of cybercriminals has caught the interest of the government in the United States and the rest of the world. Cybercriminals are actively busy knowing most nations’ critical infrastructures are network-based and gaining access to such information will render governments incapacitated based on who gains access to such information.

The Global Competitive Index report, a few countries are committed to the progress and advancement of Cybersecurity. These include United Kingdom, United States, France, Lithuania, Estonia, Singapore, Spain Malaysia, Norway, and Canada. In the past few years, most nations have learned from the sophisticated, successful attack that launched against Ukraine’s power grid and the few unsuccessful attacks on the United States. The attacks have caused the United States government to consider serious preventive actions against cyberattacks to safeguard its citizens’ information. The media has been a critical point of continuous education and self-awareness for the American people regarding cyberattacks in the United States, considering how the American citizens have accepted social media use.

Nations like China have taken measures to keep the citizens aware and educated by enacting the “Cyber Security Law.” The idea behind this is to protect cyberspace sovereignty, protect the legal rights and interests of the citizens, and raise national security awareness. Israel is right behind the United States when it comes to securing private and public infrastructures. Ukraine learned the hard way from the attacks that were launched against her and worked hard to ensure her infrastructures are safe and secure out of the experience.

As technology evolves and nations develop new ways to secure their cyberspace, attackers find new ways to access databases worldwide. With that in mind, governments should join forces and work out a solution.
