Technological advancement has made it comparatively easy to employ various cloud apps for data storage. These means of storing data has brought several concerns regarding the safety of the general information. Keeping electronic information attained from individuals opens organizations up for an enormous amount of risk, including Phishing and hacking. Data breaches and insecurity surrounding keeping individuals’ data disturb trust, disrespect law, and violate ethical principles. Major ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information of individuals include:

1. Inappropriate use of data gathered on customers containing personal information.

2. Privacy regarding an individual’s data storage for longer than necessary.

3. Confidentiality surrounding customer’s information exposure to third-party companies for business.

4. Data breaches that deal with customer’s personal information. 

The lack of an ethical and professional culture of dealing with personal information in an organization will negatively impact its reputation. Additionally, Ethical oversights are needed to ensure that appropriate security measurements are in place to store personal data. Vagueness involving keeping data needs clarification and ethical codes to concerned individuals to know the right way to act when the need arises. Besides that, to have a comprehensive list of moral and ethical principles of dealing with electronic data, we must consider both current and future data use. Whether we are collecting data or our data is being collected, we need to consider asking the necessary questions regarding third-party exposures and proper storage. The organization needs to inform the individuals how the data is stored, which organizations gain access to my information, and what security measurements are in place to safeguard my data. Finding answers to these questions will help clarify individuals’ safety and whether the collector ensures integrity, confidentiality, and data availability. The privacy and anonymity of the stored data need to be intact to keep data privacy. Unethical use of personal information negatively impacts a business’s reputation and is a blatant violation of consent terms.
