Computers are devices that take in a very large amount of media and data on a daily basis. Since they are not only a medium of communication but they are also a source of information and entertainment. Computers are inherently designed for internet use and because of this they are also at risk. Seeing as they are a medium of communication and connecting to the internet it is important to protect by investing in cybersecurity. This can be done a number of ways but the most common solutions involve downloading antivirus software. Making sure your computer’s firewall is up to date and you are responsible when browsing the internet is also important. Also, not only is the internet a cause for concern but also methods of communication such as email. These could be sources of phishing attacks which can put harmful viruses on your computer. Hence, it is the owners responsibility to ensure their own cybersecurity. Since the use of computers has become commonplace many benefits can be identified as well as disadvantages. Computers have made entertainment, information, and communication an easily accessible item in instant time. This is great and highly beneficial to everyone who uses computers because it is a medium for all uses of the internet. However, it is also the cause of some issues because of the anonymity that comes with it. It has become a medium for people to commit cyber crimes such as phishing attacks and scams. Cyber crimes have been a major cause for issues among businesses leading to the leaking of customers’ personal information. Not only this but there have been cases of cyber stalking and cyber harassment which have in many cases been left without resolution. Computers may not have been the cause of these crimes but it is a medium for actions to be taken.
