Review the articles linked with each individual motive. Rank the
motives from 1 to 7 as the motives that you think make the most sense
(being 1) to the least sense (being 7). Explain why you rank each
motive the way you rank it.

1. Money – Financial gain. The prospect of direct financial gain through theft, fraud, extortion, and selling stolen data makes it highly compelling.
2. Political – Nation States have the most talent/money at their disposal and the most resources to accomplish their goals.
3. Multiple Reasons – Only b/c I don’t think we can say there’s a sole motivation for crime.
4. Revenge – I do not think this is a major motivator.
5. Recognition – Maybe for a group, but I think going unnoticed is a bigger motivator. Not being caught.
6. Entertainment – Maybe for tinkerers and curious people. I think the learning curve is too steep to stay motivated long enough to become a cybercriminal just to entertain yourself.
7. Boredom – Again, not likely.
