When I started this course, I had everything planned out. I had an idea of when certain assignments would be completed and when I would study for each test. This is my first online course, so I expected to stay on top of my assignments. For the most part, I did that. The archived items were harder to remember to do considering they weren’t on the syllabus, so I had to catch up on those. I missed an ATA and Blog because of Spring Break. Other than that, I have been on beat. I expected to learn more about relationships and which factors influence the way we get into them. I did that with this course and assignment 4. I learned about the social world and the way I fit into it. The syllabus was a great representation of the course and the objectives were definitely met.

When I first saw the syllabus for this course and saw that I had to create an e-Portfolio, I was worried I wouldn’t be successful in this class. However, this e-Portfolio kept me interested in the subject matter. The blogs and assignment takeaways helped me connect different topics to not only things in this class, but other courses as well. The top 3 things I learned in this course are advertisements and how they convey women is very different from how they convey men, music plays a role in relationships, and your love style plays a big role in who you choose to be with.
I learned about the styles of love in Psyc 201S, so the topic was not new to me. However, I didn’t know how much of an impact it could have on how we go about choosing who we want to be with. Where we fall on the scale can help explain why we act and react to certain situations the way we do. Overall, this course was by far my favorite for this semester.

I found this article very interesting. I knew that sexual preferences or “needs” played a role in a relationship. However, this article broke it down even more. I’ve seen men lie to their significant other because they knew doing so would “boost” them in a way and make them want to have sex. The section on after a relationship has formed wasn’t a surprise either. I have been in a relationship for 7 months and still have the fear of infidelity. However, I’m not sure if I would call it jealousy. The last section on what happens after a breakup was surprising. I didn’t think sexual conflict would drive someone to become a stalker.
When men lie about little things or “forget” to do something, it upsets women. From experience, when males have a lot of female friends, that also upsets women. On the flip side, when women wear clothes that are too showy, men get mad. When women smile at another man, men get upset.

I have always known that ads, whether on TV or in a magazine, dehumanize women. When companies use women in their advertisements for their products, they pick women who are slim, young, and beautiful. Most of the time, the women in the ads have little to no clothes on, which makes the ads more appealing to men. Before watching this video, I never knew how many ads got sexualized. 9 times out of 10, if a food or alcohol ad is on TV, a half naked woman is too.
The first ad shows that the women in the ad have to be beautiful, almost perfect. There are no blemishes, cracks, open pores showing. The second ad shows that every part of the body has to be altered. The women in the ads have to alter every part of their body from head to toe in order to be included and viewed in that ad as men, and others, in society would want them to be. The third ad shows that one body part gets focused on, usually breasts or bottom. This sexualizes the ad and draws more eyes to it. The fourth ad shows that women must be slim, and if they are, they aren’t as attractive. Finally, the fifth ad shows that older women are not as attractive and appealing as younger women. Many older women are not in ads and people see a lot of ads about “how to look younger,” as if aging isn’t something everyone does.

The Daily Press has always been known as a credible source. Their contents don’t try to persuade anyone to do anything. They tell the news and update you on certain events happening, which makes them a credible source. In this case, less is more. The next photo is an example of a non-credible source. This is a cigarette ad that basically states that doctors smoke camels. This may make people believe that smoking camel cigarettes is healthy because doctors do it, but in reality, smoking cigarettes aren’t okay, making this a non-credible source. The final picture is of an attractive ad. A woman is shown eating a burger on the beach in her bikini. The attractive ads are usually successful because they appeal to ones eyes, usually with women being the center of the ad as the one I have chosen shows. These are usually aimed at a certain audience.

I have used this process before in other courses, so I was already planning on doing it before reading the prompt for this blog. I was very excited to see that I got such a high grade on this first exam because this is my first semester taking an online course, so I was nervous. When reviewing my answers, I searched for them in the PPT notes, the book, and if I couldn’t find them, I used the internet. When preparing for the test, I did my review sheet in one night. Because of this, I forgot some information. When studying for this next test, I will space out my study guide more. Knowing what I did wrong and right will definitely help me improve my scores on other tests. Cramming the study guide all in one night was not helpful. Being able to review my answers after the test helps me to see what I have done wrong so I can know for future tests/assignments.

Reading the article, “Soul Meets Body” did not surprise me at all. Music is a defining factor in my friendships and helps strengthen my relationships. My friends and I have the same music taste. We often make playlists for each other for music suggestions since we know what each other likes. My girlfriend and I also share similar music taste, which is probably what attracted us to each other, among other things. My friends, my girlfriend, and I definitely have similar values and ideals. My music taste varies depending on my mood. If I’m in a happy mood, I listen to hip hop. If I am sad, I listen to R&B. Overall, my music is happy and that is very reflective of me because I am generally a happy person. The soundtrack below represents connections between myself and my friends, family, and girlfriend.

Overall, I think I am a great student. I work hard and put a lot of effort into my assignments in school. I utilize my materials to the fullest. I am very confident and it’s rare that I struggle, but when I do, it definitely messes with my head. I took anatomy for one of the courses in my old minor, exercise science. I struggled a lot and ended up with a D+. Throughout the entire semester, I doubted myself and my final grade reflects that. If I was a little more confident, I might’ve received a better grade.
My confidence can definitely be increased if I start doing assignments ahead of time instead of waiting until the last minute. I am a professional procrastinator and it stresses me out at times. I can do this by establishing different days to work on assignments ahead of time before they are due. I never plan my work out, I just do it whenever I have time. This will decrease my stress and make me a better student.
The questionnaire reflects how with more effort, my ability to complete tasks can grow. My ability to do work on time and without procrastination can grow with effort. As long as I put in effort, I will continue to strive as a student.

Once I register for classes, I check BlackBoard every day to see if a course has become available. Once the course becomes available, I look at the syllabus to see what books I will need and to review the assignments and other important dates. After reviewing the course objectives, I should be able to understand how people perceive others, explain how attitudes are formed, along with knowing the effects of prejudice and many other concepts. This could help me form relationships in the future and understand why people view me the way you do, or why I view them the way I do. My expectations for the course are to understand most, if not all, aspects of social psychology. I am hoping to gain an understand of the social world and how I fit into it. I will use my planner and dry erase calendar to be successful in this course. I will study nightly and complete the modules and assigned readings. This course will not be taken lightly because it is my first online class, so it is a tad bit different.
