Looking at the different types of jobs in the cybersecurity field there are a few that interest me. One job that I find particularly interesting is cybercrime investigation. This interests me because there are lots of people out there who want to use technology against us and steal form us. Another one is insider threat analysis because it is like cybercrime investigation. I guess a like those two but slightly different would-be cyber intelligence planning. I have a cousin who works for the government, and from what he has told me that kind of work does seem rather interesting. As for jobs that don’t look to interesting would-be system authorization or technical support.

The principles of science relate to computer science for a few reasons. Cybersecurity is an interdisciplinary field involving multiple sciences. Weather those sciences are social or more technical. You must be ethically neutral in cybersecurity, because you might be protecting someone else’s data. You could also be doing work that involves catching people committing crimes weather they are foreign or domestic. Parsimony is also important when it comes to explaining cybersecurity to other people. If you become a CSO or CISO then you need to be able to explain to people how they might accidentally reveal sensitive information. These are just two of the principles but, all of them are important because cyber security is a science.

Looking at the amount of data available to the public there is, researchers can look at. For one thing they can look at the amount of data breaches over a certain time frame. They can also look at what type of breaches are most common, what data is being leaked, and what companies or facilities are being targeted. Using this data, they can start to look at why those companies were targeted. After this they can start to help develop strategies to prevent data breaches. Researchers can also look at different laws and definitions within cybercrime and data breaches. This can help researcher find out what misunderstandings or loopholes there are in the legal system. All off this data can be used to help find out why people commit these cybercrimes.

In Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs there are five levels physiological, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. To be able to get all the physiological needs technology must be used. For example, with houses we use technology to get the materials to make them. When it comes to safety needs, things like health appointments must be made online and the technology they use while your there to check you. For love and belonging, I use a phone to talk and stay connected with friends and family. Esteem is a little tougher, but we have so much freedom because of things like the internet or even cars can get us where we want or need to go. Self-actualization is hard because I feel like I don’t really use technology for it.

The way I rank each motive would be cognitive theories at 1, behavioral theories at 2, psychodynamic theory at 3, neutralization theory at 4, personality theories at 5, and reinforcement sensitivity theory at 6. The first three that I mentioned make the most sense because they are about behaviors that are learned. The fourth one makes sense because there is sound logic behind the reasons for committing the crime. The fifth one makes no sense to me because you are looking at someone’s personality and determining if they are more likely to commit a crime. You can do this, but it will not always be accurate. The sixth one makes no sense at all because it is a reward-based theory which does not fit everyone who commits crimes.

When you look at a website it could be fake. Sometimes it is obvious that it is fake, other times it is not. The biggest thing to look for on websites is the URL. An example of this is PayPal back in 2023 there were some fake websites made to look like the real one. The real URL for PayPal looks like paypal.com/signin, whereas a fake website URL can look like pay-pail.com. Another way you can tell if a website is fake is what kind of news or information they are spreading. There are many fake news websites on the internet that have false articles. The important thing with those websites is to look at more than one news website to see if the article is true. A famous website called the dihydrogen monoxide research division was nothing but fraud. If you are unaware that is the scientific name for water. They had all sorts of scientific research, but all it takes is a little research on your end to find out.

Meme 1:

This person is getting ready to do something on a public network.

This relates to cybersecurity, because we use VPNs to provide us with more secure and safer use of the internet. Especially when we want to do things like check our email, or we have to look at our bank account.

Meme 2:

When I forgot what I changed my phone password to.

We use phones every day and having a password helps to keep them protected. Using just numbers makes it easy for us to remember our passwords. Of course you can also set it as letters or even a pattern.

Meme 3:

Asking for help to connect to the Wi-Fi.                There are many times where we need to ask for help with stuff. Especially connecting to Wi-Fi. Most places won’t just have the password out, you’ll have to ask for it. This helps to protect the network and keep your devices secure.

Seeing hackers in movies and TV shows sets this expectation for us. In all reality most of time it doesn’t look like that. Now the main reason Hollywood does that is to keep us interested and engaged with the movie. It also sets this expectation that we have unlimited resources to throw into cybersecurity and hacking. You need to have money so you can put security measures in place for companies to prevent hacks. For the hackers you need to have the time and computing power to complete the hacks. Hacking doesn’t look nearly as fun or cool in real life, but we have the movies to do that for us.

When I took the social media disorder scale I scored one. I was not really surprised by this score. I was, however, surprised at the criteria used to test people and place them on the scale. The one that concerned me the most were the questions asking about conflicts with people over social media use. Or even the one asking if you lie to your parents about social media use. Of course, looking at the entire world you will see different patterns as to the results. This is due partly to the cultures in the world. There is also the fact that not everyone will have access to social media. So, they might not even know what social media is.

There are a few ways someone could look at this article. They could just blow it off not thinking about the ramifications of social cybersecurity. Or you could think about it and try to find solutions. I do truly believe that this needs to be taken very seriously and have a lot of attention on it. I wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing that kids will have to learn about this kind of stuff in school. Even if that is not the case, people should have to take classes on it. It goes beyond just making sure the American values stay within the American society. That is where making people learn about this and take a class on it would come into play.

In the video there were some social themes that popped up. One of them for example was about finding experience and how you could do that about anywhere. One of the places she talked about was going to a large church or religious organization. The main point of that was about finding experience even if that was not what you necessarily wanted. She also talked about how your resume is what shows you off. Making sure that you frame it so that your accomplishments show how you are the best candidate for the best job. She talked a lot about perception with that example, and how people will take a glance at you or your resume and make assumptions about you.

The letter has connection to the rational choice economic theory. They chose to get help form a cybersecurity firm to resolve the issue and got government help. It also relates to the laissez-faire economic theory because they cooperated with the government. After the breach they gave relevant information to federal investigators to help catch the perpetrators. This letter also relates to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. This is because the letter gives information about cancelling cards used on the website. This would be making sure that safety needs re being meet by protecting yourself from considerable monetary loss. This could also be connected to Bernard Weiner’s incentive theory. Which is all about motivation being driven by rewards or avoidance of negative consequences. Which, by cancelling cards that have had information leaked from, avoids considerable monetary loss.

In the research paper they speak on bug bounty policies. This is paying people for finding bugs and vulnerabilities in a system. This can be useful for smaller companies that might not have the huge budget for cybersecurity. What they found in their research was that financial institutions and retail businesses receive fewer and less reports as the months progress. This makes sense considering how much money can be gained by malicious hackers. The number of reports would start to drop regardless of what institution it is. This shows that companies still need to invest in cybersecurity and not rely solely on ethical hackers.

Out of the 11 illegal things that people do on the internet five of them really stick out to me. Collecting information on children, illegal searches on the internet, recording a VoIP call without consent, sharing passwords, addresses, or photos of others, and faking your identity online. Both collecting child information and doing illegal searches online is just immoral and illegal. The children and families can suffer major psychological impacts from some stranger collecting information on them. Illegal searches are self-explanatory as to why they are bad. Sharing passwords, addresses, or photos of others online is also damaging to a person. You lose your sense of security and people can get into accounts or find out where it is you live. Faking your identity online is just immoral and should not be done. There is not much that be done to prevent people from doing it unfortunately. People who do this can trick others into giving information to them while pretending to be someone else. For example, a cyber offender could pretend to be from their bank and get someone to give them the password to their bank account. These are the five things that are the most serious violations on the internet.

The way that he speaks about entering the cyber field is not what you’d expect. He started out as an accountant then went into IT and finally got into digital forensics. His career path really shows that you can enter this field even if you don’t start out in it. The skills he learned as an accountant can even help him with digital forensics. This isn’t just limited to accounting, many other professions in the social sciences can get you into cybersecurity. Not just that but they are already used by current professionals in the cybersecurity field.
