Cybersecurity in this day and age is a mandatory requirement where everyone can be DDoS or hack your systems. So implementing any amount of security would be extremely beneficial for your sake and your client’s sake; however that does come at its own cost. Granted a VPN is the bare minimum for cybersecurity, but there are better ways to both protect your data while also being cost efficient. There are two routes that I can immediately think of when discussing the costs and benefits of cybersecurity; you could either buy your security with money or you could buy your security with time. The former focuses on learning the many cybersecurity practices, spending time instead of money, such as changing your password regularly, implementing two step authentication, or buying physical security equipment. Although buying services and subscribing to companies like NordVPN or Surfshark, both popular cybersecurity companies that provide tiers of protection for your data at varying levels of payment. The latter of the two’s option is learning how to protect yourself but for that you must learn about the technology and programs by yourself and implement them by yourself as well. However this process will take longer because you must learn it, but because you learn the material you will have a better understanding of the time you put into learning about cybersecurity instead of just buying or subscribing to a program. No matter how you decide to protect you and your information, there will always be a cost and a benefit to protect your business. Either spend money to protect yourself or spend time learning how to protect yourself, both are way better than just letting fate run its course and being unsafe on the internet.
