Discussion Board: Opportunities for Workplace Deviance

With how many tools, extensions, and resources would be provided in the workplace, it’s not a big surprise. Confidential information, for example, could be used for personal gain or revenge. It’s a high-risk high-reward situation. Confidential information is usually in private companies or the government, so the consequences are dire if they get caught. Secondly, harassment of another coworker through email threads of passive-aggressive behavior, petty messages or even excluding them in certain work activities like Zoom meetings and events. Third is cyberloafing. Using the company’s internet and equipment for personal reasons even the clock is negligent. Another negligent action is just not following the company’s protocols when it comes to the systems. Examples such as disabling firewalls, not using password policies, and using unauthorized apps which put the systems in place at risk. Data sabotage is one that can happen but just being able to access it alters the files which could happen out of retaliation or even protest due to the company. Falsifying digital records is another easy deviant task that could be done by just altering things misleading everyone working there and covering certain things up. Lastly, the simplest one in the book is plagiarism from a coworker’s work without their knowledge and claiming it as their own.
