Cybersecurity policy analysis is something that is essential to aspects of safety and security in the digital world. It’s something that we don’t really think about daily. Cybersecurity policy analysis is all about trying to safeguard as much digital systems as possible. It requires an understanding of technical, social, and ethical aspects in the career of a Cybersecurity Policy Analyst. Having aspects from sociology, psychology and anthropology, the social sciences have an great impact on the field and is something you don’t really think about when thinking of cybersecurity.  Navigating the digital world, addressing any risks, and trying to be inclusive and open to marginalized groups are all something that is essential for the field.

Understanding the human part of Cybersecurity.

The human part of cybersecurity is something that we don’t particularly think about. After all we are dealing with machines essentially. Mostly only interacting with the digital and online world. However, when it comes to cybersecurity there is a human part that is a huge part of the field. When dealing with user interaction, hackers, and how people understand policy changes, understanding human behavior is a huge factor to the field of cybersecurity. This is where the social sciences come in to play. Research in the social science field and understanding how the human brain works are valuable aspects of cybersecurity. Why do cyberattacks happen? Why do certain individuals cyberattack companies or people? How can we present polices to our workers to achieve the best possible work environment for our workers? These are all questions that are often asked in cybersecurity. Social science attempts to have an answer for those questions. An explanation to why certain people do certain things. There’s always a motive or a reason to why cyberattacks happen. Using these concepts and any information from the field of social sciences are essential to the field of cybersecurity.   

The Ethical Considerations of Cybersecurity.

The ethical aspect of cybersecurity is essential and paramount in analyzing cybersecurity analysis. Social science research can help guide decisions and influence policy decisions. Social science can help provide a proper ethical framework for being able to properly assess the ethical aspect of cybersecurity. Asking questions about digital inequality, digital property, and even human rights are something that a policy maker might think about. Having policies that are equal to everyone, even marginalized groups is essential. Discussion around why do hackers do what they do is how you’re able to make effective countermeasures from potential hackers is critical. Understanding the human part of cybersecurity is how you make effective polices and are able to counteract any potential cyber threats.

Conclusion

The best way to make effective cybersecurity policies is engaging with proper social science research to understand the human aspect of it. Combining everything you learned in the field of sociology, psychology, and anthropology are huge aspects of the cybersecurity field. As the world evolves and we become more and more intersected with technology it is essential that we look at other fields to help us understand this new digital world of the 21st century.
