Verbeek Technologies

Verbeek technologies are political in nature because they shape the way users view and interact with the world. “Politics of mediation” means that technology is always political and personal. The best example of this is with social media algorithms, as they are used by the general public and are made to maximize engagement. In turn, discourse becomes one-dimensional, and marginal voices are silenced. The way the algorithms work is done in an unknown way, and as a result, our choices are conditioned by undemocratic black boxes.
