CYSE 200T

Cybersecurity, Technology, and Society

Cybersecurity is an interdisciplinary field that requires professionals to combat the growing trend of cyberattacks. Cybercriminals are working endlessly to evolve with the intent to dismantle computer systems, collect personal data from individuals, and potentially profit from their actions. Computer science and cybersecurity are interconnected fields; both provide the technical tools and problem-solving skills necessary to mitigate cybercrime.

My definition of cybersecurity is practicing good digital hygiene and preventing personal information from being accessed, damaged, or stolen without consent. However, cybersecurity is not just a technical issue; social sciences play a massive role in cyber incidents. This includes psychology, sociology, and economics. It is crucial to focus on human behavior – not just the technical infrastructure – cybercriminals frequently target human-related weaknesses.

When it comes to confidentiality, we want the utmost protection. As expected, protecting our personal data usually makes us depend on technology and computer science to handle our digital affairs when, in fact, it begins with human behavior. To ensure our personal information does not reach the wrong hands, we must practice safe digital hygiene. This includes using strong passwords, avoiding using public Wi-Fi, and establishing educational awareness programs so that employees can understand confidentiality and protection of information systems and digital infrastructure.
