Old Dominion offers a handful of majors that are related to cybersecurity. Just as an insight, four majors would be criminal justice, computer science, business analytics, and information systems and technology. As you may be aware, cybersecurity has numerous hackers and other cybercrimes. When you are a cybersecurity professional and you are analyzing and investigating cyberthreats or crimes that have occurred, it is vital to know the consequences for the law, and this is where cybersecurity can tie into criminal justice. Being aware that criminal justice comes with learning laws and different aspects of the legal system, cybersecurity professionals should be able to navigate the legal system and make sure security measures comply with legal and regulatory frameworks.

Another major that would actually be the most relatable to cybersecurity would be computer science. These two are very similar, but cybersecurity is considered a subset of computer science. The computer science major gives students the skills to program, learn algorithms, and understand software development.Professionals in cybersecurity who are responsible for developing secure systems, detecting flaws, and creating usable security solutions will find this information useful.Business analytics would be a very broad major that could also be related to cybersecurity. Both majors allow people in either field to enhance threat analysis and risk management practices.

Information systems and technology, which is another major offered by Old Dominion, could also be related to cybersecurity. Students who are in this major are going to learn how to implement security measures, manage network infrastructure, and ensure the secure handling of data. This is the ultimate goal of a cybersecurity professional in order to protect their organization. Although it might not seem like it, there are so many majors that are related to cybersecurity, whether it is understanding the legal system or managing network infrastructure.
